15 years since the inauguration of this unique space in the region
The Mayor of Albacete and President of the Board of Trustees of the Botanical Garden of Castilla-La Mancha, Manuel Serrano, has highlighted the important contribution of this ‘orchard’ to research, as well as to tourism and the promotion of our city during its first 15 years of existence.
Manuel Serrano made these remarks during the opening of the photographic exhibition “The Consolidation of a Botanical Garden”, commemorating the 15th anniversary of this space, accompanied by its director, Pablo Ferrandis, his predecessor in the post, Fernando Carreño, the councillors of the Government Team, Elena Serrallé and Carlos Calero, other members of the Municipal Corporation, representatives of the Provincial Council and employees, including the exhibition's curator, Guillermo García-Saúco Sánchez.
In the mayor's opinion, the Castilla-La Mancha Botanical Garden is ‘a source of collective pride for the city, the province and the region’, currently home to more than 2,100 species and an important germplasm bank that preserves one million seeds from more than 1,000 endangered, unique or interesting plant species for research purposes.
Manuel Serrano thanked all the directors, members of the Board of Trustees, researchers and workers who have been involved with the Botanical Garden of Castilla-La Mancha over the last 15 years ‘for their time, talent and commitment to transforming this space into the orchard it is today’, while also highlighting the ongoing commitment of the City Council, the Provincial Council and the University to ensuring that it remains one of the most important and attractive natural and educational spaces in the entire region.
A Botanical Garden that is a magnificent educational, cultural, social and public awareness resource, as well as a tourist attraction for the city and a place of leisure and enjoyment for the people of Albacete. Thanks to the recreation of ecosystems, it has become a wonderful showcase for our natural wealth, as can be seen in the rose garden inaugurated a few months ago and in so many other enclaves.
The mayor has encouraged citizens to visit this commemorative exhibition until 4 November to discover 15 years of conservation, research and dissemination at the Botanical Garden of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as its facilities to discover the great natural attractions it houses.
