This small rock garden includes various colonizing silicicolous species.
In rocky siliceous environments with limited soil development, characteristic species of Luso-Extremaduran Mediterranean forests—mostly shrubs and herbs—thrive. In this small rock garden, located next to the acidophilous rockrose scrub, various colonising siliceous species typical of these lean, stony habitats have been included, such as needle-spined gorse (Genista hirsuta), rockroses (Cistus crispus, C. ladanifer, C. salviifolius, C. laurifolius), tree heath (Erica arborea), asphodels (Asphodelus serotinus), and herbaceous species such as the great mullein (Verbascum thapsus) and viper’s bugloss (Echium plantagineum).
