8. Transitional Tarayal-Adelfar

A transitional space between the more humid soils and those containing salt and gypsum.
Between the recreated freshwater endorheic lagoons of Daimiel and the surrounding saline and gypsiferous lands, there is an oleander scrub (Nerium oleander), a toxic plant of the Apocynaceae family also known as baladre, mixed with tamarisks (Tamarix africana), indicating a shift toward more saline soils. These vegetation formations are thermophilic, adapted to low-rainfall environments, and grow along highly irregular dry riverbeds or near river channels, especially in the south and southeast of Castilla-La Mancha.
Also present are fleabanes (Dittrichia viscosa), reeds (Arundo donax), and some esparto grass (Lygeum spartum).
